Répertoriés sur Google Maps, épinglés au fil de mes balades ou repérés sur Instagram un matin entre deux stories. Certains, je ne les ai jamais visités. D’autres, j’y suis allée une seule fois. Puis j’ai mes cafés habituels. Et je continue d’en ajouter.</p><p>Je me pose alors la question : est-ce que je cherche vraiment un bon café ? Ou est-ce que je cherche autre chose ? Quelque chose que le lieu me promet avant même que j’y entre ?</p><p>La réponse, je crois, en dit beaucoup sur la manière dont nous habitons les lieux aujourd’hui.</p><div Au début, il désignait simplement quelque chose de joli, de photogénique. Une lumière particulière, une assiette bien dressée, une rue pavée au bon angle.</p><p><span>Aujourd’hui, il est devenu un critère à part entière, au même titre que « bien situé » ou « bon rapport qualité-prix ». On entend souvent : </span><em>l’endroit est vraiment instagrammable</em><span>. Ils ont fait quelque chose de plus subtil ; ils ont changé notre manière de les consommer.</p><p>Un café, une boutique, un hôtel… ces lieux ont toujours eu une dimension d’image, de mise en scène. Mais Instagram a accéléré leur diffusion, standardisé certaines esthétiques et, surtout, intégré le partage dans l’expérience elle-même. On ne visite plus un lieu puis on en parle ; on visite, on documente, on partage, presque simultanément.</p><p>L’espace est devenu un arrière-plan identitaire. Ce que l’on choisit de photographier dit quelque chose de qui l’on est, ou de qui l’on veut paraître être. Le lieu n’est plus seulement vécu : il est collecté, archivé, montré. Un espace photogénique, c’est de la publicité gratuite, une identité visuelle diffusée par ses propres clients.</p><p>On le voit dans les choix de matériaux — terrazzo, arches en stuc, carreaux de ciment, et plus récemment le retour des matériaux à l’état brut — dans les palettes de couleurs maîtrisées, dans l’attention portée à la lumière naturelle, aux fleurs fraîches, ou même aux packagings. Des espaces conçus, consciemment ou non, pour produire de bonnes images.</p><p><span>Le problème, c’est que les tendances visuelles s’accélèrent. Ce qui était distinctif devient rapidement un standard. L’esthétique qui devait distinguer finit par uniformiser. C’est ce que certains designers appellent, depuis un moment déjà, la </span><em>Pinterestisation</em><span> des espaces : une homogénéisation des intérieurs par la circulation massive des références Que nous ne vivons plus les lieux, nous les documentons. Mais c’est probablement plus nuancé que ça.</p><p>Photographier un espace qu’on trouve beau, le partager, c’est devenu une habitude naturelle. Presque un réflexe affectif. Mais ce geste individuel, répété à grande échelle, crée un cycle. Quelque chose est beau, on le partage, il devient instagrammable, il est photographié encore, partagé encore. C’est ce cycle qui alimente l’accélération des tendances visuelles, et qui finit par peser sur la manière dont les espaces sont conçus.</p><p>C’est là que la vraie question se pose, non pas du côté du visiteur qui photographie, mais du côté de l’intention du design. Est-ce que cet espace a été pensé avec une vision propre, ou conçu pour surfer sur ce qui circule en ce moment ? On le ressent souvent sans pouvoir le nommer : certains lieux sont beaux, puis on les oublie. D’autres restent.</p><p>Ce qui distingue les deux, c’est rarement l’esthétique seule, c’est l’intention derrière. Un espace conçu uniquement pour être instagrammable répond à une tendance, et disparaît avec elle. Un espace conçu avec une histoire, une cohérence de fond, s’ancre dans son époque sans en dépendre. C’est précisément ce qui lui permet de traverser le temps. Rien n’est vraiment intemporel, mais certains choix nous aident encore à comprendre une époque, à identifier un mouvement. Et j’ajouterai probablement encore des adresses à ma liste.</p><p>Mais avec le recul, je crois que les lieux qui comptent vraiment ne sont pas forcément ceux qu’on a le plus photographiés. Ce sont ceux qui avaient une intention assez forte pour ne pas avoir besoin de suivre les tendances. Ancrés dans leur époque, construits avec un caractère propre, on les reconnaît parce qu’ils ont une identité, une cohérence qui tient dans le temps.</p><p>C’est peut-être ça, un design qui résiste : un design qui existe pleinement, avec ou sans l’image.</p><p>L’espace n’est plus seulement un lieu où l’on va. C’est aussi un contenu que l’on emporte avec soi. On entend souvent : <em>l\u2019endroit est vraiment instagrammable</em>. Comme si c\u2019\u00E9tait une caract\u00E9ristique objective de l\u2019espace, une qualit\u00E9 architecturale documentable.</p><p>Et quelque part, c\u2019est exactement ce que c\u2019est devenu.</p><h4><strong>L\u2019espace comme opportunit\u00E9 de contenu</strong></h4><p>Les r\u00E9seaux sociaux n\u2019ont pas invent\u00E9 les beaux espaces. Ils ont fait quelque chose de plus subtil ; ils ont chang\u00E9 notre mani\u00E8re de les consommer.</p><p>Un caf\u00E9, une boutique, un h\u00F4tel\u2026 ces lieux ont toujours eu une dimension d\u2019image, de mise en sc\u00E8ne. Mais Instagram a acc\u00E9l\u00E9r\u00E9 leur diffusion, standardis\u00E9 certaines esth\u00E9tiques et, surtout, int\u00E9gr\u00E9 le partage dans l\u2019exp\u00E9rience elle-m\u00EAme. On ne visite plus un lieu puis on en parle ; on visite, on documente, on partage, presque simultan\u00E9ment.</p><p>L\u2019espace est devenu un arri\u00E8re-plan identitaire. Ce que l\u2019on choisit de photographier dit quelque chose de qui l\u2019on est, ou de qui l\u2019on veut para\u00EEtre \u00EAtre. Le lieu n\u2019est plus seulement v\u00E9cu : il est collect\u00E9, archiv\u00E9, montr\u00E9. rapidement. Un espace photog\u00E9nique, c\u2019est de la publicit\u00E9 gratuite, une identit\u00E9 visuelle diffus\u00E9e par ses propres clients.</p><p>On le voit dans les choix de mat\u00E9riaux \u2014 terrazzo, arches en stuc, carreaux de ciment, et plus r\u00E9cemment le retour des mat\u00E9riaux \u00E0 l\u2019\u00E9tat brut \u2014 dans les palettes de couleurs ma\u00EEtris\u00E9es, dans l\u2019attention port\u00E9e \u00E0 la lumi\u00E8re naturelle, aux fleurs fra\u00EEches, ou m\u00EAme aux packagings. Des espaces con\u00E7us, consciemment ou non, pour produire de bonnes images.</p><p>Le probl\u00E8me, c\u2019est que les tendances visuelles s\u2019acc\u00E9l\u00E8rent. Ce qui \u00E9tait distinctif devient rapidement un standard. L\u2019esth\u00E9tique qui devait distinguer finit par uniformiser. C\u2019est ce que certains designers appellent, depuis un moment d\u00E9j\u00E0, la <em>Pinterestisation</em> des espaces : une homog\u00E9n\u00E9isation des int\u00E9rieurs par la circulation massive Que nous ne vivons plus les lieux, nous les documentons. Mais c\u2019est probablement plus nuanc\u00E9 que \u00E7a.</p><p>Photographier un espace qu\u2019on trouve beau, le partager, c\u2019est devenu une habitude naturelle. Presque un r\u00E9flexe affectif. Mais ce geste individuel, r\u00E9p\u00E9t\u00E9 \u00E0 grande \u00E9chelle, cr\u00E9e un cycle. Quelque chose est beau, on le partage, il devient instagrammable, il est photographi\u00E9 encore, partag\u00E9 encore. C\u2019est ce cycle qui alimente l\u2019acc\u00E9l\u00E9ration des tendances visuelles, et qui finit par peser sur la mani\u00E8re dont les espaces sont con\u00E7us.</p><p>C\u2019est l\u00E0 que la vraie question se pose, non pas du c\u00F4t\u00E9 du visiteur qui photographie, mais du c\u00F4t\u00E9 de l\u2019intention du design. Est-ce que cet espace a \u00E9t\u00E9 pens\u00E9 avec une vision propre, ou con\u00E7u pour surfer sur ce qui circule en ce moment ? On le ressent souvent sans pouvoir le nommer : certains lieux sont beaux, puis on les oublie. D\u2019autres restent.</p><p>Ce qui distingue les deux, c\u2019est rarement l\u2019esth\u00E9tique seule, c\u2019est l\u2019intention derri\u00E8re. Un espace con\u00E7u uniquement pour \u00EAtre instagrammable r\u00E9pond \u00E0 une tendance, et dispara\u00EEt avec elle. Un espace con\u00E7u avec une histoire, une coh\u00E9rence de fond, s\u2019ancre dans son \u00E9poque sans en d\u00E9pendre. C\u2019est pr\u00E9cis\u00E9ment ce qui lui permet de traverser le temps. Rien n\u2019est vraiment intemporel, mais certains choix nous aident encore \u00E0 comprendre une \u00E9poque, \u00E0 identifier un mouvement. L\u2019uniformisation des esth\u00E9tiques par l\u2019acc\u00E9l\u00E9ration des tendances efface justement cette capacit\u00E9 : quand tout se ressemble, rien ne dit plus rien.</p><h4><strong>Pour finir</strong></h4><p>Je retournerai dans mes caf\u00E9s pr\u00E9f\u00E9r\u00E9s, ceux que je connais bien, ceux o\u00F9 je sais exactement quelle table choisir. Et j\u2019ajouterai probablement encore des adresses \u00E0 ma liste.</p><p>Mais avec le recul, je crois que les lieux qui comptent vraiment ne sont pas forc\u00E9ment ceux qu\u2019on a le plus photographi\u00E9s. Ce sont ceux qui avaient une intention assez forte pour ne pas avoir besoin de suivre les tendances. Ancr\u00E9s dans leur \u00E9poque, construits avec un caract\u00E8re propre, on les reconna\u00EEt parce qu\u2019ils ont une identit\u00E9, une coh\u00E9rence qui tient dans le temps.</p><p>C\u2019est peut-\u00EAtre \u00E7a, un design qui r\u00E9siste : un design qui existe pleinement, avec ou sans l\u2019image.</p><p>L\u2019espace n\u2019est plus seulement un lieu o\u00F9 l\u2019on va. C\u2019est aussi un contenu que l\u2019on emporte avec soi.
